innovative, and fearless spirit of the American Traveler. James Bigoni has been collecting art for over 50 years. When he started his first collection in the 1970’s, he began by purchasing books of limited edition lithographs by artists such as Picasso, Dali, Chagall, Miro, and Matisse. Later, he added ceramics, original drawings, and original oils to the collection. Bigoni has seen his original investment triple in value in as many decades. A Picasso original oil would have sold for $7,000 to $20,000 in the 1950’s or 1960’s. In today’s market, the same painting would sell for many millions of dollars. At an auction in May, 2006 in New York, Picasso’s Dora Maar au chat brought $95 million. James Bigoni believes that many similar oils may sell for $100 to $200 million in the next fifteen to twenty years.Limited edition lithographs by these same artists have shown a similar pattern of stability and growth in value over the decades. These prints were published and authorized by the respective artists at a time the original oils and drawings had not yet been recognized by |
